Session 2 Begins Monday May 31st!

I am very excited to meet everyone and to get out and ride. With all of this rain, the trails are in excellent shape! We will ride rain or shine so please dress accordingly!

Meeting Locations: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of this week we will meet at the lower parking lot at Phil's Trailhead. If you drive past the upper, horseshoe shaped parking lot, through the gate and down the hill there is a large gravel area (it is where the start finish to the Dirty Half is located) where we will meet. There are maps of all of our meeting locations available on this blog under the Parent/Athlete Handbook tab.

Bring a Friend Day: The first Thursday of this session, June 3rd, is BRING A FRIEND DAY. Our athletes are invited to bring a friend, neighbor, sibling or parent to ride with us. All we ask is that 'friends' sign a liability release and let me know who is coming. Liability releases are available here

Flexible Day Options: If your child is signed up for the two-day per week option please let me know as soon as possible, which days they will be coming. The days can change from week to week but I need to know in advance so that I can schedule coaches accordingly.

I would encourage everyone to explore this site. Up to date schedules, program information, pictures etc are all available on this site. You can also link to this page through the MBSEF cycling home page at mbsef.org. Our schedule is posted on a google calendar embedded at the bottom of this page and on the MBSEF home page. If you click on a given day the meeting location will be posted there. I will also send out a weekly email reminder.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at this email or on my cell phone at 541.633.9776. I always have my cell on me when we ride, if you need to get in touch with me while we are riding and I do not answer on the first try, keep calling back, I will answer if it rings more than once in a row.

Looking forward to Monday!

Taylor

Horse Ridge Adventure Day!

Saturday was the first MBSEF Adventure Day of the season! We loaded up the van and headed East of town to ride at Horse Ridge. None of the kids had ever ridden this trail system so it was new experience for everyone. The trails are Horse Ridge are not quite as developed or buffed out as the system we ride in Bend everyday; more loose sand, rocks, a few barbed wire fences to hop and some beautiful views of the high desert. We did get snowed on, twice, but that was the price we paid for having the entire trail system to ourselves for the day. We climbed all the way to top of the ridge, nearly 1000 feet of vertical gain, and were rewarded with some fast and fun descents. We were also treated to burrito lunch from our sponsor, Long Board Louis in the parking lot at the end of our 2.5 hour ride (the older kids rode close to 3 hours).
All in all it was a great day! Below are a few pictures from the ride.

Chicken Races!

Last week MTB coach Luke Mason introduced us to chicken racing. Chicken Racing is a two person race around the flaming chicken bike roundabout. The first person to catch up to the other wins. Javier and William gave it a try; they were pretty evenly matched until Sir William took a tumble in the loose dirt. I think that a rematch is in order. Kevin took on the champ for another close match. After that we decided to keep riding and save more chicken racing for another day.
